Celebrate The Season As They Do In Ireland
Illawarra Mercury
Friday June 29, 2007
More used to very cold weather and even occasional snow at Christmas time, members, friends and supporters of the Australian Irish Welfare Bureau and Resource Centre (Illawarra) will turn their thoughts next month to Christmases past.
On July 27 they will gather for Christmas in July, much more reminiscent of a northern hemisphere celebration than the laid-back, often outdoors casual events many Australian families plan for the festive season.Everyone, regardless of whether they have Irish ancestry, would be welcome to attend the luncheon from noon at the Lutheran Church Hall, Burelli St.The menu for the day is roast pork, turkey and ham, stuffing, roast potatoes and other vegetables, Christmas pudding and brandy custard and bottomless tea or coffee. And the delicious food is just the beginning of the day's festivities which will include a dancing demonstration by the Virginia Bird School of Irish Dancing, music by the Pilgrim Road Band featuring Tony Hanson and Mike Blanche, raffles and a lucky door prize.Cost is $10 for members, $15 for visitors.Bookings to Peter Morelli 4272 6678.
